(More on Narcissism cont.)

Types of Narcissism
There are different types of narcissist, ie overt, covert, antagonistic, communal, malignant, adaptive, maladaptive, etc.
- overt (classic type of NPD
"...excessively preoccupied with how others see them. They're often overly focused on status, wealth, flattery and power......may be high-achieving and deeply sensitive to criticism, no matter how slight..."
Laura Dowart, 2023)

- covert (closet or vulnerable narcissism
"...have an inflated sense of self-importance in a crazed aberration from others...... may display more subtle and passive negative behaviours. For example, rather than bragging about themselves or demanding respect, they may engage in blaming, shaming, manipulation or emotional neglect to get what they want and to keep the focus on themselves. They also may see themselves as a victim..."
Laura Dowart, 2023)

- antagonistic (defined by a sense of competitiveness, arrogance and rivalry; overly concerned with how they appear to others; primary concern with coming out 'on top'
"...may try to exploit others to get ahead. They may put others down or start arguments in an attempt to gain the upper hand or appear dominant..."
Laura Dowart, 2023

- communal (initially they appear not to be ego-driven, ie at first they come across as selfless or even has a martyr
"...However, their internal motivation is to earn praise and admiration, not help others......place themselves at the forefront of social causes or communities, usually as the leader or the face of a movement..."
Laura Dowart, 2023

They see themselves as more emphatic, caring, or selfless than others and often display moral outrage.)

- malignant (can be seen as the most severe or potentially abusive form of NPD
"...egocentric self-absorption and a sense of superiority......also have traits associated with antisocial personality disorder, such as aggression, paranoid, and a lack of empathy. They may even have a sadistic streak..."
Laura Dowart, 2023)

- adaptive (shown by a sense of authority and a drive to become self-sufficient; not all narcissist will act, behave the same way; some examples, some will be well-dressed, charming, overachievers who cultivate a certain image to oppress others and others will be underachievers who said low expectations for themselves because of a sense of entitlement; these can be helpful traits careers in education or finance.)

- non-adaptive (shown by traits like being exploitive, condescending, aggressive; have negative impact on others they interact with)
