More on EQ or EI (Emotional intelligence) cont.

Introduction
"... Emotional intelligence is a person's ability to identify and manage their own emotions, as well. As recognise the feelings of others..."
John Mayer as quoted by IvyPanda, 2023
EQ is an important part of the toolkit needed in handling change.

Key Elements of EQ

i) success in life is more about EQ than IQ (
"...intellect is responsible only for 20% of one success in life..."
IvyPanda, 2023)

ii) emotions (EQ) are an important part of human nature (directly related to brain functioning)

iii) emotions (EQ) can be enriched, trained, improved, developed, etc (while IQ is more stable and fixed)
IQ v. EQ
"...IQ (objective intellectual parameters that reflect your intelligence and academic knowledge) and EQ (your ability to deal with emotions..."
IvyPanda, 2023

IQ parameters EQ parameters
"...- vocabulary, memory, knowledge - the ability to understand one's own and other people's emotional needs
- stable and non-changing over time - flexible, develops throughout one's lifetime
- well-organised in the brain - reflects a person's degree of success in coping with environmental demands and pressures
- covering intellectual, logical, and analytical skills - covers emotional, social, and relational skills
- rational by nature - emotional and subjective by nature..."           IvyPanda, 2023

EQ can help with handling
- failures/mistakes
- stress
- burn-out
- anxiety
- social interaction and relationships
- life/work balance, etc

People will healthy EQ possess
"...- better job performance
     - healthy, positive relationships with colleagues
     - good teamwork
     - absence of workplace conflict problems
     - overall positive work environment
     - employee satisfaction and well-being..."
IvyPanda, 2023

Four components of EI

20240602248
i) self-awareness (it is about understanding your emotions
"...It's also relates to your ability to perform a healthy, objective evaluation of your strong and weak sides, working on them without stress or demotivation. If you are a motion a competent, you get it out by your feelings and understand how they affect your performance a relationship with others..."
IvyPanda, 2023

If you have a low EQ and somebody else receives an award you would react with a mixture of
"...anger and jealousy, spiced with self-pity and suspicions of an unfair evaluation..."
IvyPanda, 2023
However, if you had a high EQ you would address your negative emotions by learning from failure and congratulating the winner on their success.)

ii) self-regulation (this involves self-management;
"...it comes into play after you have made sense of your emotions and made a conscious effort to regulate them for the sake of avoiding a spillover effect. immediate emotional reactions are irrational and often disastrous; bus, it is vital to react reasonably and to apply effort to keep your impulses under control..."
IvyPanda, 2023
If you have a low EQ and receive public negative feedback, it could trigger stress and even depression; also, could result in an emotional outburst
However, if you have high EQ
"...a polite acknowledgement of one's deep frustration with having received such feedback in public and a request to leave to collect yourself in a quiet, safe place..."
IvyPanda, 2023)

iii) social awareness (following on from understanding yourself, it is easier to understand others' emotions; it is
"...our ability to recognise the emotional background of our environment and respond to read in a timely manner..."
IvyPanda, 2023
If you have a low EQ and are conducting an interview that is not going well, you will most likely grow anxious and concerned about your interviewing skills; could become irritated and stop the interview.
However, if you have a high EQ, you are
"...likely to feel the tension and take steps to relax the interviewee, create a positive and open atmosphere, and then resume the interview..."
IvyPanda, 2023)

iv) relationship management (this is about influencing others, ie your ability to coach, inspire and mentor or others to resolve interpersonal conflicts, etc
If you have a low EQ and quarrelling with a colleague, you could get defensive and even aggressive.
While with a high EQ, you would offer a sincere apology.)
