Technique 1.181           Influence (including self-discovery)

Introduction
Need to determine a person's influence in the organisation; this includes exploring how they perceive their influence as against their actual influence.
This is followed by asking open-ended questions to build context and encourage self-discovery
Questions:
i) Determining your degree of influence in the organisation
- How would you characterise the politics of your company? Give an example of this?
- How do you handle political challenges within your team/group?
- How do you think they respond to you when you're having this type of conversation with them?
- How do you know that everyone is happy with your decision or request?
- How does the politics affect you? How do you know this?
- How would you describe the organisation's current interaction with you?
- How would you like future interaction to be?
- How do you want people to interact with you?
- How do you feel about your interactions with your organisation?
- How would you know of people's experiences of interacting with you have changed?
ii) Tie the self-discovery back to the change initiative in the context of actions that can be taken now; some questions to ask (including self-reflection):
- How will this new experience impact the organisation conducting this initiative?
- How do you know your actions and influence are benefiting the organisation?
- How often should you meet to review the initiative?
- What insights are you developing?
- At what organisational level are you able to have the most impact?
- How much effort you need to put into practicing in your selling skills?
- How can you improve your work?
- What do you need to know about yourself to maximise your professionalism?
- What has been the impact of improving your ability?
