Technique 1.173 Personal Change
Introduction
"....the key to successful change management is learning how to include the individual and their needs. For this, we need to learn how to manage personal change......understand the importance of the individual within change management ..."
Grant Van Ulbrich, 2023
This involves some reflection, like answering the following questions:
- To what extent is change happening for you and within your organisation?
- To what extent are you confident that you and your organisation can handle personal change?
- How do your teams feel about handling change for themselves?
Initially the focus has been on organisational change, not individual change.
Difference between organisational change and personal change:
"...Organisational change is the methodology and practice of implementing and processing change within businesses and organisations. It is supported with a wide variety of popular change models used around the world..."
Grant Van Ulbrich, 2023
However, with organisational change, there is limited focus on the individual, their feelings, thoughts, needs, etc. In contrast personal change is about understanding any change that happens to you, for you, with you, or about you; it is not about the organisation.
Initially, you need to check with the people, who are going to be impacted by the change, to ascertain if they support, or do not support, the change initiative.
