Framework 157 Stages Of Faith
Introduction
This framework is a modified version of Rev. John Westerhoff's 4 stages of Christian faith development:
- experienced faith
- affiliative faith
- searching faith
- own faith
NB need to progress through each stage before heading for the next:
"...we may expand into the needs and elements of the later stages, but only after the needs of the earlier stages are met. Stages of faith are like rings of a tree. Just like a tree adds one ring on the top of another, we do not leave the needs of the earlier stage behind after we expand into the next stage..."
.CAINA, 2023
For change management, the stages of change are called
- experienced stage (laying the foundation for change by understanding culture, ie customs, rituals, 'dos and don'ts', rules and regulations, etc)
- affiliative stage (developing a desire of belonging to the organisation as your understanding of the organisation and its culture increases)
- searching stage (questioning and testing your experiences to get a better understanding of what the change is about, how it will impact the organisation, yourself and stakeholders, etc; a necessary prerequisite for the next stage)
- owned stage (after the preceding struggle with doubt or refinement, there is now buy-in, ownership, etc of the change process; a complete understanding of what is involved in change; become an active supporter of the change process).
NB it is important that opportunities are provided at every stage that address the needs of each stakeholder.
