Common Management Errors (101, 102, 103 & 104)
Ci) Setting Specific Completion Dates
With change initiatives, be careful about agreeing to completion dates; it is better to agree to a non-specific time framework, like 6 months after an event.
Cii) Moving a Person into a Change team is Like Forming a New Tribe.
Therefore, you need to be careful that they don't lose their connections and relationships with their other tribal teams.
(for more detail, see elsewhere in the Knowledge Base)
Ciii) Location of change management office.
Traditionally change management has been located in human resources (HR) (Scott Anderson, 2023). It is better located where it can have the most impact, ie for project changes, it is best located in the project office; while organisational-wide changes should be overseen in head office near senior management or decision-makers.
Civ) Introducing change by muscling and/or smuggling
- muscling involves trying to force through organisational outcomes; this puts staff on a compliance track, not a commitment track
- smuggling involves trying to hide your change initiative owing to concnerns about potential resistance; try to frame initiative as something it is not.
