Technique 6.34 SCAMPER
Introduction
Scamper is a process of expanding and improving upon ideas by testing and questioning them from different angles.
"...this method forces you to approach your project or problem in unexpected ways. Each question ask you to dig a little deeper into the issue and consider new possibilities..."
Dani Mansfield, 2022
It makes you think beyond predefined assumptions by using the series of 'would' or 'could' to encourage your mind to move away from minimal commitment to any actual change or alteration; encourages you to improve things.
S.C.A.M.P.E.R
S = Substitute (What would happen if you swap X for Y?)
C = Combine (What would happen if you combine X and Y?)
A = Adapt (What changes would need to be made to adapt to a different context?)
M = Modify (What could be modified to create more value?)
P = Put to another use (What alternatives or other uses or application might it have?)
E = Eliminate (What can be removed to simplify it?)
R = Reorganise (How could we reorganise to make it more effective?)
An example is marketing
"...- improve the current process - such as a keyword research or market research - by substituting, combining, and adopting tasks
- optimising the copy of a blog post or campaign by crafting hypothetical changes that can improve the piece. These changes could make it easier to 'template' the piece
- build a group campaign that effectively gets leads to convert by modifying and substituting certain e-mail messages..."
