An Example of New Technology (AI & ML)

Introduction
Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) have the potential to impact everything we do, including change management.
It has the potential to make change management simpler, ie better able to handle the complexities, unpredictabilities and uncertainties of change; some areas include
- increasing operational efficiency and effectiveness (it is better able to understand complex datasets that provide insights into topics like employee engagement and enthusiasm:
"...machine learning algorithms and other AI systems analyse large quantities of data at high speeds. They identify patterns and trends in the human analysts may overlook - a big one is how much employees correctly used new technology that helps them do their job better......this provides insights that are invaluable for creating strategic roadmap for change that takes performance metrics, feedback, resistance, and adoption rates into consideration,..."
Theresa Moulton, 2024b
Develop smarter strategies for managing change like adjusting change schedules to accommodate tolerance for change, etc
Also, AI create visuals, eg charts and graph, that make it easier to understand situation and allows more focus solutions than analysis.)
- enhances communication during the change management process (provides continual communication to all relevant stakeholder so that able
"...to address issues immediately, mitigate concerns, and keep everyone in the loop about the change process..."
Theresa Moulton, 2024b)
- generate early warnings (
"...by analysing historical and real-time data, AI-powered predictive models help organisations anticipate issues and obstacles before they arise......it makes it easier to identify potential concerns and develop effective strategies to handle them in advance......reduces risk and cost associated with change process..."
Theresa Moulton, 2024b)
- improves decision-making process by providing evidence-based insights (using algorithms you can explore into datasets and generate precise, insightful findings to help with decision-making:
"... Relying on these data-driven decisions can minimise biases and errors that show up in human-lead decision-making processes......it eliminates the politics of fear can lead managers and analysts to tell leadership what they want to hear, or carefully cushion feedback to the point it loses impact..."
Theresa Moulton, 2024b)
- provides individualised change management support (
"...AI-powered platforms deliver personalised guidance to employees adjusting to new systems or processes. These platforms adapt learning content and delivery style based on individual needs. This improves the user's experience and increases their engagement. As a result, individualised support fosters quicker and more effective adaptation to change..."
Theresa Moulton, 2024b)
- fosters a change-ready culture (can identify employees behaviours and attitudes towards change; including identifying potential resistance are able to devise suitable interventions to address resistance; and encourage adaptation and innovation; automation can streamline administrative tasks; allows for pre-testing approaches before implementing)
- allow real-time feedback (feedback is important in the learning process as it identifies individual's strengths and areas that require improvement; can identify gaps between actual and intended performance and facilitating corrective action required. However,
"...potency of feedback diminishes when it is not immediate..."
Amanda Julian, 2024
Furthermore.
"...direct reports might hesitate to provide candid feedback without the assurance of anonymity..."
Amanda Julian, 2024)
- can personalise approaches, etc (everyone is unique in different:
"...there is diversity amongst learners...... each person's background knowledge, inherent level of interest, perceived relevance of the learning material are pivotal in shaping effective learning experiences......the pertinent knowledge, skills or behaviours to be trained may vary based on factors like an individual's goals, as well. As there role, organisation, or industry......subsequently failing a program to align, as best as possible with these identified needs..."
Amanda Julian, 2024
NB AI can provide anonymity and speed up the feedback cycle.
Summary
"...Leveraging AI to support and enhance the human element for a more successful outcomes......is not about replacing the human element of change management..."
Theresa Moulton, 2024b
Currently AI able to:
"...- aids a better understanding of complex data sets
     - enhances communications
     - predicts potential issues
     - supports decision-making processes
     - provides individualised support
     - fosters the change-ready culture, and
     - automate administrative tasks..."
Theresa Moulton, 2024b
"...AI and ML present immense potential..... These technologies have the ability to not only adapt to each learner's unique needs, interests, preferences, and proficiency levels, but they can also analysed laerge amounts of organisational data to pinpoint the specific skills or competencies that need to be enhanced or developed..."
