Framework 170       SCARED framework (personal change management)

Introduction
Challenge is to learn how to handle personal change, ie how to handle your emotions, feelings, etc that are important and matter. This is generally the missing link in organisational change frameworks
Need to focus on the individual first, ie people side, before the organisation.

Process for handling personal change
i) allow time for critical personal reflection
ii) understand your feelings towards the change initiative
iii) become aware of what you can and cannot control
iv) understand the importance of the feeling aspect of your change situation, ie being a vulnerable enough to state that feelings matter
Need to be careful of making assumptions and/or following instinct or 'gut feeling'; generally better to to use analysis.

SCARED Wheel
S = Surprise
C = Conflict or Champion
A = Action
R = Receptive or Reject
E = Explore Options or Opportunities
D = Decision or Indecision

This is about understanding your feelings; starting at the top, work your way around the wheel by using the questions (see diagram below) like
"...How do you feel and what can you do in each area?..."

In the centre is you and your change, ie it is synonymous with you.1_decision_or_indecision

This process is a way of you coming up with ideas, ie getting ownership/buy-in
NB The framework is not linear as people do not learn in a linear fashion; it needs to be flexible and focus on the way people learn and process things; it is built around the energy (positive and negative) and time.

This can be personalised to the way you think, feel, reflect, live, etc during the change journey.
Summary
Mastering and embracing personal change is about closing the gap by focusing on the individual first and then the organisation, ie bringing the individual on the organisational change journey.

Most organisational change management frameworks are too prescriptive, and don't take into account people's uniqueness and differences.
It is about making an informed decisions that are right for you.
It's about you taking control of your personal change, ie understanding what the decision means and what you can do about it.
The importance of reflection to help make the best decision.
