(Common Management Errors (39) Use of Psychology in Change cont. 1)
Some Techniques
Introduction
Using positive psychology interventions and actions to enhance well-being.
Some examples include
- appreciative enquiry (searching for the best in people, organisations, communities, etc; focuses on what works, ie
"...discovery of 'what gives life' to a system when it is most effective and most economical, ecological, and socially capable..."
David Cooperrider et al as quoted by PositivePsychology, 2020)
(for more detail see elsewhere in the Knowledge Base)
- positive psychotherapy (focus on building strength and enhancing positive emotions; engagement that shows significant, long-lasting decreases in depression)
- strength-based counselling (focuses on what people's strengths are rather than what they do not have; emphasises on successes rather than failures)
- strength-centred therapy (focuses on building strengths in the change process; emphasises that subjective views are more important than experts' opinions)
- solution-focused therapy (focus on people strengthen and how they apply the change process; key ingredient is use of positive language that emphasises possibilities and positive alternatives when seeking solutions and creating expectancy of change)
NB Most of these techniques can be done without the need of outside experts
