Leadership (hard to define)

Introduction
"...research to date has failed to produce the definitive characteristics of great leaders......(there) is a disconnect between leadership qualities that individuals perceive as necessary versus actual competencies required to be an effective leader..."
Eli Konorti et al, 2022

This is
"...primarily due to a cultural clash between science-driven side (with an emphasis on empirical confirmation and scientific caution) and a practice-driven side (with a focus on solving real-world problems)..."
Eli Konorti et al, 2022

A range of views varies from

- leadership as a set of hard skills (leadership is not about personality or charisma but following a set of rules that allows leaders to gain knowledge, implement it and ensure accountability)

- distinguishing between management and leadership (management is about hard skills such as budgeting and planning while leadership is about a set of abstract soft skills such as setting direction and motivating others)

- technical knowledge and skills vs emotional intelligence (technical know-how is not as important as EI in leadership)
(for more detail see elsewhere in the Knowledge Base)

Some of the qualities mentioned around leadership include

NB like beauty, leadership is in the 'eye of the beholder'
