More on Motivation
Introduction
Motivations can be driven by
- rewards (financial, non-financial, etc)
- punishment (lose something you value if don't do something, etc)
- peer group pressure (members of the group you belong to puts pressure on you to do something irrespective of whether you want to do it or not, etc)
- values (your personal values encourage certain behaviour and discourage other behaviours)
- interest/enjoyment (you like doing something)
"...when people are mainly motivated by rewards, punishments, and internal pressure, they have a harder time initiating and maintaining their behaviours over the long term. However, when people are more ominous - that is, when people are motivated more by their own value for the behaviour, or by their interest and enjoyment of the behaviour - they tend to be more persistent in their behaviour, feel more satisfied, and have higher well-being overall..."
