Control as Part of Stress

Introduction
As our brains like certainty (including stability, predictability, etc), 'feeling in control' is important.

Yet this is an illusion:
"...Life is full of unexpected twists and turns, and no matter how much you plan or prepare, there will always be factors beyond your control......what is accepted is that there is much in the world you cannot control..."
Michelle Gibbings, 2023o

Furthermore, if you are fixated on controlling everything you run the risk of
"...becoming a micromanager, overly perfectionistic, stifle them creativity and innovation, and being difficult to work with..."
Michelle Gibbings, 2023o

Also, it will negatively impact your health and well-being by increasing stress, anxiety and burn out.

Two types of control prevail:
i) externally driven, ie you have little or no control over your life and what happens, eg fatalists
ii)  internally driven, ie you believe you can control your responses and reactions to events and people.
NB Having an internally-driven focus helps you manage stress better because you 'know' you can respond wisely.
