Social Media Profile

How to maintain and enhance your social media profile

1) Know what you stand for (your commentary to reflect your values and what's important to you)

When posting ask yourself

"...- Does this represent me when I am at my best?
     - Will I be proud to stand by this comment now and in the future?
     - Will this action enhance or detract from my reputation..."

2) Elevate visibility (need to differentiate yourself from others so that you stand out from the crowd; there are 3 core elements to this

    a) build the foundation (
"...get the basics in place for your social media platform of choice. This includes the set up, establishing your profile and working out how to best leverage the tool..."

Michelle Gibbings, 2022d)

    b) design your position (start to examine and implement the activities you need so your profile online has presence, resonance and relevance)

    c) rock your presence (use of 5 Cs together, ie connect, create, consistency, check and control

        i) connect (connect and build meaningful relationships to expand your reach; be very selective as it's more than a numbers game)

        ii) create (be active online
"...Have a regular program and approach, which involves updating your status, sharing relevant and helpful content or commenting on somebody else's content. You want to be social regularly and in a meaningful way..."

Michelle Gibbings, 2022d)

iii) consistency (align with your values a desired marketing position
"...This includes being consistent in your language, tone of voice, what type of content you share and how you come across..."

Michelle Gibbings, 2022d)

iv) check (continual review of profile and approach so that they are relevant and your content is current)

         v) control (as platforms could certainly change the way they operate, their features, etc, need to be aware of their ramifications, especially around privacy and security settings)

3) Make it work for you (some tips:

    a) fit for purpose (you share to suit the platform's purpose, ie professional information on LinkedIn, more personal information on Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok, etc)

    b) think long-term (as its hard to erase content be cautious when posting especially comments about other people)

    c) select your audience (control who is to see your posts; check your privacy settings, etc )

    d) be professional (need to be authentic and credible, ie
"...balance your desire for an impact with a professional curated approach..."
