Core Skills

. Core skills of negotiation include

‐ the ability to define a range of objectives, yet be flexible (it is a sign of strength, not weakness) about some or all of them and know when to give ground

‐ ability to explore the possibilities of a wider range of options

‐ the ability to prepare well

‐ interactive competence, ie able to listen to and question other parties

‐ ability to prioritise clearly

‐ ability to understand non‐verbal signals, ie body language
